In order to provide faster access to Microsoft services, including Cloud, Live, Online, and Bing, the software giant is on pace to open two mega-data centers during the next few weeks. The first datacenter is located in Chicago. This data center is almost equal to the size of 16 American football fields, or 700,000 square feet (65,000 square meters). It has a total power of almost 60 mega watts, with initial phase using 30 mega watts.
The second datacenter is located in Dublin (Ireland). This data center will help European users to access Microsoft services faster. This will take 303,000 square feet of space (28,000 square meters). It required about 5.4 mega watts of power.
According to Microsoft datacenters blog:
“Two-thirds of the Chicago data center is optimized for housing containerized servers…”
“…These prepackaged units (with up to 1,800 to 2,500 servers each) can be wheeled into the facility and made operational within hours…”
