At the Structure 09 Conference world championship ring, two world caliber engineers were taking a few jabs at each other, as reported by theregister.co.uk. The two were at Mission Bay Conference Center, San Francisco, CA, on June 25:
(1) Vijay Gill, Senior Manager, Engineering and Architecture, Google [Google guy]
(2) Najam Ahmad, General Manager, Global Networking Services, Microsoft [Softie]
The Google guy questioned the Softie’s approach to online infrastructure performance. The Google guy believed his company has already practiced and applied all fundamental cloud computing implementation than the Softie’s company has done. The Google guy indicated that Softie’s new decision engine, Bing, may need to work harder on its online infrastructure before Bing can capture search market share from Google search engine.
The Softie returned several softer salvos to the Google guy too. Softie believed his company has so many set of applications on its network already. Softie company can't actually practice and apply one single solution that really works for all apps, for example, Softie’s IM services demand higher bandwidth than other apps. The Softie reiterated that his company has utilized a mixture of solutions to solve its online infrastructure performance, especially for specific applications and types of applications (incl. Bing Maps).
